Office Slaughter Signals Return To Tradition For Yakuza Violence

A local office building in Taihaku was the target of a late-night raid on Wednesday evening by an unknown rival to the Shikiburi Clan yakuza who operated out of one of the building's floors; security forces were notified soon after the violence started by salarymen in the building working overtime, but were unable to respond in a timely manner. By the time the scene was secured, over two-dozen yakuza were dismembered in a place that better resembled a butcher's shop than a corporate office. Individuals familiar with the scene stated to MetroNews interviewers there appeared to be no sign of firearms or explosives used in the attack; instead, all of the deceased are believed to have died due to swords and knives of varying technological complexity. Blood-water spray on the walls and ceiling matched the patterns of a water-assisted blade, while surgically clean, partially-cauterized wounds were consistent with high-frequency weapons. However, it is believed the majority of the attackers utilized regular steel weapons to carve their path of carnage through the gang's headquarters. No civilians are reported to have been harmed in the incident, and surviving Shikiburi members of the attack are reportedly uncooperative with security forces- most likely meaning that this incident will be one of many gang-on-gang slaughters left on a shelf at the central A.S.F division in Taihaku.
Asked for comment, the Shikiburi Clan spokesman promised retaliation against the attackers tenfold for their smearing of the yakuza's name, and declared that next time the assailants would not be so lucky as to strike when only subordinates wielding swords of their own were in the building. When asked if he had suspicions as to who was involved, the representative immediately fingered the Aranami terrorist organization as the assailants, indicating that the Shikiburi had been the target of their ire for quite some time due to their flaunting of typical yakuza tradition such as protection of civilians from turf disputes. While no official link has been made to the attack from the Aranami group, their involvement would mark a significant escalation of the local Taihaku yakuza conflicts that may see even more dead bodies littering the streets in the coming weeks.

"While we have not dispatched our own fighters," stated the message, "warriors who wish to see even criminals walk a path of relative honor will not ignore the trespasses of these gangsters, corrupted by foreign ideals, forever. Let them consider this to be a learning opportunity."

Dai-Lung, Mararia Clan Announce Merger

While the two organizations have been working together in close harmony since early 2119, the public announcements marks a significant advancement in their mutual fight for survival. Dai-Lung has been hard pressed since the takeover of other triads by the Volk group in mainland China from both the fast-growing Eurasian syndicate, as well as other small competitors in Metro-1. Meanwhile, the Mararia Clan has seen its influence dwindling with the arrival of Volk to the shores of mainland Japan; while the Kyoto-based yakuza once held its territory with an iron grip despite their small size thanks to its hardened core of cybernetically-enhanced swordsmen, the sheer numbers of Volk and other opportunistic gangs flooding its central and branch territories have lead it to formally subordinate itself to the Dai-Lung. While unlikely to be enough to ward of Volk attacks on its turf entirely, the merger should likely bolster the ability of Dai-Lung to defend itself against opportunistic attacks by smaller gangs looking to cut off a piece of its holdings for themselves.
